Q. I received a cheque in the mail for $75 Million for playing in the USA Mega Jackpots. Is this for real?
A. No. The cheque in our entry pack is only a “sample cheque”. It was printed and sent to show you what you could win-- there are REAL WINNERS-BIG winners, in USA Mega Jackpots. You could in fact win a bigger Jackpot than the sample cheque you received for US$75 Million. The current record stands at US$365 Million for an individual winner.
Q. Is it legal to enter State Lotteries outside the US?
A. Yes. U.S. federal law only prohibits the mailing of lottery tickets; however, there is no law prohibiting a non-US citizen from playing or winning any US lottery. You may enter either or both Mega Millions or Powerball through Overseas Subscribers Agents anytime.
Q. How do I claim my prize if I'm playing from outside the U.S.?
A. US State Lotteries require that prizes be claimed in the particular State in which the Lottery ticket was purchased. As a subscriber, OSA's services include claiming your prize for you and remitting your prize money to any bank you nominate, anywhere in the world you may be - unless you prefer to fly to the United States and collect the prize yourself.
Q. Why is the cash option different from the advertised Jackpot?
A. USA Mega Jackpots is an estimated 29-year annuity value. When players choose the annuity option for their prize, the state lottery pays the prize out over 29 years by buying U.S. Government Treasury Securities, which earn interest and mature annually over the 29 years. That annual return is the amount the winners receive each year for the 29 year period.
With the cash option, the state lottery will take the amount of money that would have been invested and will pay it directly to the winner in one payment. Both payment options have federal and applicable state taxes deducted from them.
Q. How do I win a prize in US Mega Jackpots?
A. In order for you to at least win the minimum prize amount of US$3 in USA Mega Jackpots, the Powerball or Megaball number must be drawn.
Details of the prize divisions are as follows:
*Division 1: All 5 numbers drawn plus the Aball/Mega
*Division 2: All 5 numbers drawn
*Division 3: Any 4 numbers drawn plus the Aball/Mega
*Division 4: Any 4 numbers drawn
*Division 5: Any 3 numbers drawn plus the Aball/Mega
*Division 6: Any 2 numbers drawn plus the Aball/Mega
*Division 7: Any 3 numbers drawn
*Division 8: Any 1 numbers drawn plus the Aball/Mega
*Division 9: Aball/Mega only
Q. After I buy a ticket, can it be changed from annuity to cash option?
A. Federal legislation states that if you are a Jackpot prize winner but did not choose the cash option at the time of purchase AND you claim your prize within sixty (60) days of the draw, you will have one last chance to choose the cash option. If you choose the cash option at the time of purchase you cannot change to the annuity (OSA's advice is to choose the cash option).
Q. How much do I pay in taxes?
A. All US state lottery prizes are subject to a 3O% withholding tax when won by a non-US citizen.
Q. Why is there a cut-off time for entries in USA Mega Jackpots?
A. Cut off time for entries into both US Powerball and US Mega Millions is 7 pm, barely three hours before the actual Jackpot draw takes place. This remaining three hours allow us to process our subscriber's entries (we make sure that the Entry Confirmation containing their ticket number is being sent to our players before the draw) and enter and lodge their computer-selected numbers.
